Lama Gyurme is a Bhutanese Buddhist monk and chant master who has gained international recognition for his musical collaborations that blend traditional Tibetan Buddhist chant with contemporary musical elements. Born in Bhutan in 1948, he became a monk at the age of four and later received the title of "Lama" after completing his studies in Buddhist philosophy and practice. Lama Gyurme has been particularly noted for his work with French composer and musician Jean-Philippe Rykiel, with whom he released the album "The Lama's Chants: Songs of Awakening" in 1996. This album, along with subsequent releases such as "Rain of Blessings: Vajra Chants," showcases his deep, resonant voice and has helped to bring the spiritual sounds of Tibetan Buddhist chants to a wider audience. His music is often used for meditation and relaxation, bridging the gap between traditional spiritual music and modern listeners seeking mindfulness and peace through music.
