Baroque German Composer and Organist

Johann Valentin Rathgeber (1682–1750) was a German composer, organist, and Benedictine monk who made significant contributions to the music of the Baroque period. Born in Oberelsbach, Rathgeber joined the Banz Abbey in 1707 and was ordained as a priest in 1711. He is best known for his church music, which includes masses, offertories, hymns, and other sacred works. His compositions are characterized by their melodic inventiveness and harmonic clarity.
