Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a prominent philosopher, writer, and composer of the 18th century, born on June 28, 1712, in Geneva, Switzerland. While he is best known for his contributions to political philosophy and literature, Rousseau also had a significant impact on music. His most famous musical work is the opera "Le Devin du Village" (The Village Soothsayer), which premiered in 1752. This one-act opera was well-received and even performed for King Louis XV. Rousseau's musical style was influenced by the French Baroque tradition, although he was not a prolific composer like his contemporaries such as Rameau or Lalande.
