Jean-Baptiste Loeillet

Jean-Baptiste Loeillet

Baroque Composer and Flutist from the Loeillet Musical Family

Jean-Baptiste Loeillet, who is often referred to as Jean-Baptiste Loeillet of London to distinguish him from his cousin Jean-Baptiste Loeillet of Ghent, was a Baroque composer and virtuoso musician. Born on July 18, 1680, in Ghent, Belgium, he moved to London around 1705 where he became known as John Loeillet. He was a contemporary of composers such as Handel and is best known for his flute sonatas and other chamber music. His works were appreciated for their melodic charm and technical skill.
