Hyman Bress (1926–1995) was a renowned Canadian violinist known for his exceptional technique and passionate performances. Born in South Africa, Bress moved to Canada as a child, where he began his musical education. He quickly established himself as a prodigious talent, making his solo debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra at the age of 12. Throughout his career, Bress toured extensively, performing in many countries and with numerous prestigious orchestras. He was also a dedicated teacher, imparting his knowledge to students at institutions such as the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. Bress made several recordings over the course of his career, which showcased his versatility and deep understanding of a wide repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary works. His contributions to classical music were significant, and he left behind a legacy that continues to influence violinists today.
