Hans Leo Haßler

Hans Leo Haßler

German Renaissance Composer

Hans Leo Hassler (1564–1612) was a German composer and organist of the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras. He was one of the first to bring the innovations of the Venetian style across the Alps into Germany. Born in Nuremberg, Hassler served at different times in his career at courts in Augsburg, Nuremberg, and Dresden, where he was exposed to the latest Italian music, including the polychoral works of the Venetian School.
