George Hamilton IV

George Hamilton IV

Country Music Singer-Songwriter

George Hamilton IV was an American country musician known for his smooth voice and gentlemanly demeanor. Born on July 19, 1937, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he began his career in the late 1950s as a teen idol with pop hits like "A Rose and a Baby Ruth." However, he soon transitioned to country music where he found enduring success. His 1963 hit "Abilene" became one of his signature songs and is often what he is best remembered for. Over the years, Hamilton became known as the "International Ambassador of Country Music" because of his extensive touring and popularity in countries outside the United States, particularly in Canada and the United Kingdom. He was a regular at the Grand Ole Opry and continued to record and perform until his death on September 17, 2014. His contributions to country music were recognized with various accolades throughout his career.
