Hungarian-American Conductor and Opera Director

Fritz Reiner was a prominent conductor, known for his precise technique and the clarity of his orchestral interpretations. Born in Budapest, Hungary, on December 19, 1888, he studied at the Franz Liszt Academy with notable instructors including Béla Bartók. Reiner emigrated to the United States in 1922 and became an influential figure in American classical music. He served as the music director for several major American orchestras, including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and most notably, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1953 to 1962.
