Farkas Ferenc

Farkas Ferenc

Hungarian Classical Composer and Pianist

Farkas Ferenc (1905–2000) was a Hungarian composer, regarded as one of the most significant figures in 20th-century Hungarian music. His career spanned over six decades, during which he composed a vast array of works, including operas, ballets, chamber music, and orchestral pieces. Farkas's style was eclectic, drawing on a variety of influences from Renaissance music to Hungarian folk traditions. He was also known for his teaching; among his students were notable composers such as György Kurtág and György Ligeti. Farkas's contribution to music also includes his efforts in preserving and continuing the Hungarian musical heritage. His works are characterized by their clear structure and vibrant rhythms, often infused with a lyrical quality.
