Ex Cathedra

Ex Cathedra

British Early Music Choir and Ensemble

Ex Cathedra is a British choir and early music ensemble founded in Birmingham in 1969 by conductor Jeffrey Skidmore. The group is known for its performances of Baroque choral music, although its repertoire extends from the Renaissance to contemporary works. Ex Cathedra has established a reputation for its exploration and interpretation of lesser-known choral works, particularly those from the French Baroque period. Under Skidmore's direction, the ensemble has produced a significant number of recordings and has received critical acclaim for both live performances and recorded material. They have contributed to the revival of interest in composers such as Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Jean-Philippe Rameau, among others. The ensemble often performs with its own period instrument orchestra and has a commitment to education and outreach work, aiming to bring early music to a wider audience.
