This artist does not refer to a specific group of named individuals (such as a band or musical group) but rather defines the collective term for ethnic Russians living in China. As of the 2002 census there were more than 15,000 people of Russian descent living permanently in China, primarily in Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang province, some with ancestors dating to the 17th century. In Chinese they are known as 中国俄罗斯族. They are one of the 56 ethnic groups officially recognized by China.
