Bowery Electric is an American band that emerged in the mid-1990s, known for their distinctive blend of shoegaze, ambient, and electronic music. The group was formed in New York City by Lawrence Chandler and Martha Schwendener. They released their self-titled debut album "Bowery Electric" in 1995, which laid the groundwork for their signature sound that melds droning guitars with minimalist electronic beats and textures. Following their debut, they achieved wider recognition with their second album "Beat" in 1996, which saw them incorporating more rhythmic elements and trip-hop influences. Their third album, "Lushlife" in 2000, continued to evolve their sound with a greater emphasis on programmed beats and a more polished production. Despite not achieving mainstream success, Bowery Electric is often credited with helping to pioneer a subgenre that fused elements of rock and electronic music during the late '90s.
