Boris Christoff

Boris Christoff

Bulgarian opera bass singer

Boris Christoff (1914–1993) was a renowned Bulgarian opera singer with a prolific career as one of the leading basses of the 20th century. His voice was noted for its rich and sonorous tone, profound expression, and exceptional breath control, which made him particularly suited for the roles in Russian operas and sacred music. Christoff's most celebrated role was that of Tsar Boris in Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov," which became a signature piece for him. He performed at major opera houses around the world, including La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
