Bliss

Bliss

British group from Coventry, England, UK. Originally founded in 1986 by lead by vocalist Rachel Morrison, with bassist Paul Ralphes. Drawing inspiration from black American folk music, soul, blues and gospel, they soon recruited drummer Chris Baker and guitarist Paul Sirett. Backed by a group of session musicians on organ, piano, and brass instruments they introduced their downcast, sophisticated pop with a pair of indie-label singles, "I Hear You Call" (1986) and "Your Love Meant Everything" (1986). After signing to Parlophone (EMI), in 1989 Bliss issued their debut album, "Loveprayer", while the record failed in both the UK and the US, the group had more success in other territories, from Germany to New Zealand to Brazil. After album "A Change In The Weather" (1991), Morrison took maternity leave, and Bliss stopped recording for the rest of the decade. Rachel Morrison later resurfaced as a solo performer, mainly featuring on dance music label Underwater Records with partner Tom Morrison, as artist Meeker. From 2007, Rachel Morrison, Tom Morrison, and Paul Ralphes made the decision to reform Bliss to record several new projects. They re-released a collection of original and new material with the "Best Of Bliss" albums, titled "Spirit Of Man" (in Germany) and "Mercy" (in Italy). EMI re-released the entire Bliss back catalogue including six videos on digital platforms. Track "Mercy (Love Is The Answer)" garnered much attention, with it's remix version "Mercy (Meeker Remix)", featuring in British film "Sparkle" (2007). An album with new material called "My World Your World” (2009), was also released.
