Billy Harper is an American jazz saxophonist, widely recognized for his soulful contributions to the post-bop and avant-garde jazz scenes. Born on January 17, 1943, in Houston, Texas, Harper developed a deep passion for jazz at a young age. He pursued music education at North Texas State University (now known as the University of North Texas), a school renowned for its jazz program. After completing his studies, Harper began his professional career in the 1960s and quickly established himself as a talented tenor saxophonist.
