August Stradal (1860–1930) was a Czech pianist and composer, renowned for his transcriptions of orchestral works for solo piano. He was a student of Franz Liszt, one of the most prominent composers and pianists of the 19th century, which greatly influenced his musical style and technical proficiency. Stradal's work as a transcriber is particularly notable; he transcribed many of Richard Wagner's operas into piano solos, allowing the complex orchestral textures to be performed by a single pianist. These transcriptions were not only feats of pianistic skill but also served to popularize Wagner's music at a time when access to live orchestral performances was limited.
