Anton Filtz

Anton Filtz

Classical German Composer and Violinist

Anton Filtz (1733–1760) was an 18th-century German composer known for his contributions to the classical music era. While not as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, Filtz showed considerable talent in the composition of symphonies, chamber music, and other works. He served as a court musician in the service of the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg, which was a common practice for musicians of his time to secure patronage and financial stability. Filtz's symphonies are characteristic of the early classical style, with clear structures and melodic lines. Despite his relatively short life—he died at the age of 26—Filtz managed to produce a significant body of work that reflected the transition from the Baroque to the Classical style in music. His compositions, including symphonies, concertos, and chamber works, were appreciated for their craftsmanship and contributed to the musical landscape of his era.
