Alexander Ivashkin

Renowned Russian Cellist and Conductor

Alexander Ivashkin was a renowned Russian cellist, conductor, and musicologist, born on January 17, 1948, in Blagoveshchensk, Russia. He was known for his expertise in the works of 20th-century composers and was particularly celebrated for his interpretations of Alfred Schnittke's music. Ivashkin had an extensive recording career and performed with major orchestras around the world. He was also a prolific writer and academic, authoring several books on music and composers. In addition to his performance career, Ivashkin served as a professor at the University of London's Goldsmiths College, where he contributed significantly to the field of music education.
