Renowned Russian Cellist and Conductor

Alexander Ivashkin was a renowned Russian cellist, conductor, and musicologist, born on January 17, 1948, in Blagoveshchensk, Russia. He was known for his expertise in the works of 20th-century composers and was particularly celebrated for his interpretations of Alfred Schnittke's music. Ivashkin had an extensive recording career and performed with major orchestras around the world. He was also a prolific writer and academic, authoring several books on music and composers. In addition to his performance career, Ivashkin served as a professor at the University of London's Goldsmiths College, where he contributed significantly to the field of music education. His contributions to classical music were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. Alexander Ivashkin passed away on January 31, 2014.
