10,000 Maniacs

Alternative Rock Band

10,000 Maniacs is an American alternative rock band that formed in 1981 in Jamestown, New York. The band is known for their eclectic sound, blending elements of folk, punk, and country into their music. They achieved significant success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with albums like "In My Tribe" (1987) and "Blind Man's Zoo" (1989), which both went platinum. The band's original lead singer, Natalie Merchant, left the group in 1993 to pursue a solo career after the release of their album "Our Time in Eden" and the MTV Unplugged session that spawned the hit single "Because the Night." The band continued with new vocalists and released additional albums including "Love Among the Ruins" (1997) and "The Earth Pressed Flat" (1999). They have continued to record and perform with a changing lineup over the years.
