Willie Nelson achieved musical success relatively late and quickly followed it up with an acting career. Nelson first became famous in Nashville when he wrote songs for Patsy Cline. The song "Crazy" was Cline's biggest hit in 1961, although her version was very different from the original. Nelson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1993 and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1998. When he turned 80 in mid-2013, four generations of his family performed at New York's Hard Rock Cafe to raise money for his animal rights and biodiesel foundations. His career got off to a slow start, but his musical legacy is essential to American music history.
