A good year and a half ago, just in time for the band's 35th anniversary and frontman David Coverdale's 60th birthday, the ultimate box set about the early days of English hard rock outfit Whitesnake, "Box 'O' Snakes - The Sunburst Years 1978-1982" was released. The famous and sought after, but also extremely expensive, premium edition in LP format has since been taken off the schedule. Now, at least, a scaled-down version has been released, logically and wittily titled "Little Box 'O' Snakes - The Sunburst Years 1978-1982". Okay, the DVD and (for legal reasons) the two BBC concert recordings from the 1979 and 1980 Reading Festivals are no longer included, and instead of a 90-page book there's only a 16-page booklet, but musically everything else is based on the 2011 remaster: With "Trouble" (1978), "Love Hunter" (1979), "Ready An' Willing" (1980), "Come An' Get It" (1981) and "Saints An' Sinners" (1982), all the studio albums from the next five years of that period can be found, as well as two live albums from 1978 ("Live At Hammersmith") and 1982, respectively. 1980 ("Live ... In The Heart Of The City"). Finally, the white vinyl EP "Snakebite", which was included at the time, has been transferred to a normal four-track CD. Above all, however, the price was slimmed down, as the smaller version would be available for about a quarter of the previous price.
