It's incredible, but it's true: in June 2015, the singer, who has a huge discography to his credit, turns 60. The Autograph box set, selected by Thomas Hampson himself, offers a wealth of recordings that have never been put together before. All aspects of Hampson's oeuvre are collected on 12 CDs and accompanied by interviews recorded especially for this first volume of the Autograph series, underlining its documentary nature. Opera, operetta, lyric, oratorio, musical - there is no field in which Thomas Hampson did not set the benchmark: in the operatic genre with major recordings of Mozart, Verdi Britten and Wagner; in oratorio and sacred music with works by Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Fauré and Duruflé. American-born Thomas Hampson is also known for his interpretations of American songs, from Charles Ives to Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein. Of course, the classical-romantic Lied - Schumann's Dichterliebe or Schubert's Winterreise, for example - also occupies a large space, as do songs by Berlioz, Liszt, Strauss, Mahler and Korngold. The highlights of the light muse are the operetta songs, from Lehár's The Merry Widow and Strauss's The Gypsy Baron to the immortal musical hits of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Jerome Kern, with which Hampson once again perfectly represents the genre of his homeland.
