The salterio was an Italian variant of the psalterio that was very popular around the mid-18th century and was also used in sacred music. Even Pope Benedict XIV's ban of 1749 could not completely banish the salterio from the church, and so it survived, especially in women's convents. In the Lamentations for Holy Week with obbligato salterio from the Benedictine monastery of San Severo (Apulia) we encounter Italian Rococo in a fascinatingly unusual sonic charm, masterfully interpreted by Miriam Feuersinger and Franziska Fleischanderl on the salterio.
