Thievery Corporation, a world-renowned duo from Washington DC, is releasing a new album, "Saudade". This is the first album Thievery Corporation dedicated exclusively to the Brazilian music that originally brought them together. "Saudade" is a specifically Portuguese form of world-weariness. It can only be roughly translated as "sadness", "wistfulness", "longing" or "gentle melancholy". This word refers to the nostalgic feeling when one loses something one loves and dreams well of never getting it back. The album is heavily influenced by classics such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gal Costa and Luis Bonfá, but also by Serge Gainsbourg, Ennio Morricone and modern artists such as electro-samba pioneer Isabelle Antena. "Saudade" was created with the help of a number of guest musicians. Each track was sung by a female vocalist, namely LouLou Ghelichkhani, newcomer Elin Melgarejo, Nouvelle Vague singer Karina Zeviani, Argentine chansonnier Natalia Clavier and former Bitter: Sweet singer-songwriter Shana Halligan. Other guests include U.K. N.K. L.E. drummer Michael Lowery, Argentine singer-songwriter Federico Aubele and Brazilian percussion master Roberto Santos.
