The first stable line-up of the Rolling Stones, formed in 1962 by guitarist and blues lover Brian Jones, consisted of Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and pianist Ian Stewart. This line-up lasted (although Stewart was only a touring member from 1963 onwards) until Brian's passing in 1969, a month before his tragic death. During this period, the Stones initially devoted themselves to blues and rock 'n' roll tunes before Jagger and Richards took on the role of truly great songwriters. The band's musical and cultural development during this period was astounding, and the last Beggars Banquet album on which Jones played (with the exception of his contributions on two tracks on the following album) remains for many the best Stones album ever. At the time of Brian's death, former blues breakthrough guitarist Mick Taylor joined the group as second guitarist and stayed on until late 1974, ushering in an era that saw the Stones release three of their most acclaimed albums, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street, all of which featured Taylor's unique and acclaimed guitar work. Mick's departure opened the door for Ronnie Wood to take his place, and it's been all downhill from there as far as guitarists go, and it still is today. This 3 DVD set tells the story of the Stones from their inception, through each era of their existence, focusing on the contributions of the four guitar gods who dominated the Stones' music. Each of these films marks a different era by the guitarist associated with it, with one constant factor, the contribution of Keith Richards, who needs no separate story book and needs no introduction as he drives, as he does and always has done, the musical career of the best rock n roll band in the world.
