Just as earlier albums influenced bands like Grandaddy and Mercury Rev, The Soft Bulletin and its follow-up Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots became inspirations for bands like MGMT and Empire of the Sun. Sure, it's an album of its time - but one with a reach that's still making its way across the modern musical landscape.
