During that tour, they played 80 concerts over three months in 14 countries including Turkey, Iran, Iraq, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The album predates the somewhat similar concept of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's The Far East Suite, which was inspired by a similar State Department world tour and was released eight years later.
