"Sunday at the Village Vanguard" is a landmark jazz album by The Bill Evans Trio, recorded live on June 25, 1961, at the Village Vanguard in New York City. This album features the brilliant interplay between pianist Bill Evans, bassist Scott LaFaro, and drummer Paul Motian. Tragically, it would be the last recording with LaFaro, who died in a car accident just ten days after the performance. The album is renowned for its exceptional sound quality and the trio's exploratory approach to both standards and original compositions. The tracklist showcases the trio's dynamic range with pieces like "Gloria's Step" and "Jade Visions," both composed by LaFaro, as well as a haunting rendition of "My Man's Gone Now" from Gershwin's opera "Porgy and Bess."
