A new experience: The Beatles in Tokyo After the Beatles finished work on their seventh studio album, "Revolver," they embarked on a short concert tour around the world in 1966. From June 30 to July 2, the British rock legends stopped in the Japanese capital Tokyo, where they performed five times in three days. This was their first ever performance in Asia. By then they were tired of touring, but Japan was a new experience they were looking forward to. The venue for their concerts was the famous "Nippon Budokan". Despite protests from some traditionalists who objected to the Beatles performing at the Budokan because the hall was reserved primarily for martial arts, the concert went ahead. The June 30 and July 1 shows were even recorded by Japanese television. During these nights, the Beatles played sets with hits such as "Yesterday", "Nowhere Man", "Rock'n'Roll Music", "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Day Tripper" and "I'm Down". The soundtrack of the Japanese TV footage served as the basis for the "Beatles In Tokyo" recording, which will be re-released in two limited deluxe editions in 2021. The "Beatles In Tokyo" album is available on CD or double LP on white 180g vinyl. The CD comes in a 90-page hand-numbered hardcover book, the vinyl in a 36-page hand-numbered hardcover book with information and archival images. Both versions include a bonus DVD with live clips and interviews. And in keeping with the Japanese release, the whole thing comes with the typical "Obi-Strip" cover on the side.
