One look at the cover of this legendary album and everything is clear: a bossa nova classic, a bestseller by Stan Getz, the original version of "The Girl From Ipanema". Hard to believe, but this album is also 50 years old this month. The "expanded edition", now released to mark the anniversary, proves that it still sounds as fresh as it did when it was released in 1964. The musical significance of "Getz/Gilberto" for the bossa nova breakthrough is undeniable, the LP was the first jazz album to win a Grammy in the "Album of the Year" category! The new release is a treat for audiophiles, as not only has the album been remastered from 1st generation stereo tapes, but for the first time the correct ratio of right and left sides, which was incorrect on all previous CDs, has been restored. Since a mono LP was also released in 1964, the complete album in its then mono version is included on the CD as a bonus, as are the two single versions of "The Girl From Ipanema" and "Corcovado". A 28-page booklet with an in-depth essay by Wall Street Journal writer Marc Myers and rare photos rounds out the package.
