Santana: Caravanserai version on vinyl LP in Standard edition. This particular edition was published in Europe, UK and USA in publishing company Speakers Corner Records in cooperation with Columbia on 5. June 2020.
To rock eyes, classifying Carlos Santana's music into a genre is like dancing on a volcano. While the New York Times hailed the band as the reincarnation of Dizzy Gillespie's epochal Cuban jazz big band of the late 1940s, the trade magazine Rolling Stone wanted to experience "methedrine fever without the pictures." A very simple explanation of the origins of the differentiated soundscapes and the pulsing and chirping of Afro-Cuban polyrhythms was provided by organist Gregg Rolie, who succinctly noted that each member of the multicultural band "plays the music they grew up with." The thrilling sound is evident in the opening track, which is woven from natural sounds, twisted rhythms and tiny melodic fragments, and like many of the other numbers, it's fascinating even without the unique twang in Santana's main sound. Of course, there's also solo guitar material in the form of exuberant improvisations on rock, salsa and jazz essences. Listening to this perfectly oiled rhythm machine, one has the justified impression that the limits of possibility have been explored in this unique formation, which not coincidentally broke up after a short time. It remains one of the strongest Santana records available.
Album spans genres Rock, Jazz, Latin, Fusion, Jazz-Rock, Psychedelic rock, Latin Jazz, Afro-cuban jazz and Afro-Cuban Jazz. 180g Gatefold Vinyl.
