For twenty-two years, the Ramones were undoubtedly the loudest and fastest band in the world, with 14 studio albums and more than 2,000 shows played to their legendary musical credit. Formed in 1974 in the Queens borough of New York City, the band that once conquered the charts with the song "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" perfectly embodied the lifestyle between sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll like few others. Influenced by the rock'n'roll of the 50s and the surf sound of the 60s, Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Tommy created a stark contrast to the mainstream music of the time with their frantic two-minute songs, pioneering the punk genre. Their rapid career led from their first gigs in the mid-1970s at New York's CBGB club, where they performed alongside Blondie, Richard Hell and the New York Dolls, to their first European appearance on 13 September 1978 at Radio Bremen's TV studio. In less than fifty minutes, the quartet performed a breathtaking assault of twenty-five punk hits from their first four albums for the then hugely successful TV series Musikladen, leaving a euphoric audience in their wake.
