Queen : Deep Cuts Volume 1 is a compilation album by British rock band Queen , released on 25 October 2011. The album is a collection of rare and previously unreleased tracks from the first five years of the band's existence, from 1973 to 1976. It was released to coincide with the release of Queen's new compilation album : Greatest Hits, which covers the band's career from 1974 to 1991. The release of the album was announced on the band's official website on 17 October 2011. It was also announced on the website that the second volume of Deep Cuts will be released in 2012, to coincide with the release of the band's new studio album. The album was met with mixed reviews from music critics. Some critics felt that the album was unnecessary and that the songs on it had been released previously. Other critics, however, felt that the album was a welcome addition to the band's discography and that the rare and unreleased tracks on the album were a welcome addition to the band's catalogue. The album reached number 9 on the UK Albums Chart and number 38 on the Billboard 200 in the United States.
