US, released six years after the phenomenally successful So, was probably Peter's most personal album at the time, as it analysed and dealt with many of the relationship problems he was experiencing at the time. Far from being all gloom and introspection, however, the album US contains several songs that are among the most popular in Gabriel's songwriting repertoire. The album also continued Gabriel's time-honored motif of combining cutting-edge technology with distinctly analog contributions from musicians in West Africa, Egypt, and Armenia. It reunites him with Daniel Lanois as co-producer and establishes collaborations with Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, Brian Eno, Peter Hammill and Sinead O'Connor.
