Dutch death metal legend Pestilence is back! Pestilence was formed in 1986 in the Dutch-German border area (Enschede) as a three-piece thrash metal band. Pestilence released their debut album "Malleus Maleficarum" in 1988, subsequently refining their thrash metal approachand became leaders of the genre, considered one of the most intense and brutal bands. Their second album "Consuming Impulse" was released in 1989 and marked a major shift in the direction of the emerging death metal scene. With this album, Pestilence gained international attention and became highly regarded by death metal fans worldwide. With Patrick Mameli on vocals, they then released the classic death metal album "Testimony of the Ancients". The band's fourth album "Spheres" was released in 1993, and Pestilence began mixing elements of jazz fusion into their death metal style, using guitar synths on the album. Looking back, we have to say that they were too far ahead of their time at the time. And so the band broke up shortly after, feeling that they had reached their peak. The long period of inactivity ended in January 2008 when singer and guitarist Patrick Mameli announced to the metal press that Pestilence were back. In 2008 Pestilence decided to write and record new music for the 2009 album "Resurrection Macabre".The re-formed Pestilence released another album entitled "Doctrine" in April 2011, shortly after Patrick Mameli announced that Stephan Fimmers (Necrophagist) and Tim Yeung (Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal) had joined the band. The two new members were also involved in the recording of Pestilence's seventh album "Obsideo". Patrick has moved away from his most popular albums "Consuming Impulse" and "Testimony of the Ancients". Then in 2014, Patrick Mameli declared that Pestilence was "permanently on hold". It seemed that the Pestilence book was written and closed, and that he had moved on to other forms of innovative extreme metal. In early 2017, Hammerheart Records owner Guido Heijnens and Patrick Mameli had some very constructive meetings and it was decided that the complete history of Pestilence would be...put on the chopping block. The catalogue was subjected to serious editorial ideas to rework the four so-called Roadrunner classic albums for deluxe reissues as 2CD or vinyl in high quality and premium sound, which led to the idea of giving fans their wildest dreams come true, an old-school liveset for 2018. Pestilence had also prepared extremely strong material and recorded a brand new album called "Hadeon" at Spacelab Studios in Germany in the summer of 2017. This album will now be released in March 2018, following the promised oldschool tour of Europe in late January/February 2018. The album is a sort of return to the old school death metal that many fans appreciate most, but it is clearthat Mameli are not simply copying anything, but that the record has a much more clearly recognisable fresh progressive feel. "Hadeon" is the follow up album to "Testimony of the Ancients". 2018 will bring many festival appearances and tours around the world.
