"Graceland" from 1986 is the seventh studio album by singer and composer PAUL SIMON. In 1984, after a period of depression, a bootleg tape of music from a South African township caught SIMON's attention. He planned a trip with Roy Hale to Johannesburg, where he spent two weeks recording with South African musicians. The album thus presents an eclectic mix of genres including pop, rock, a capella, zydeco, isicathamiya and mbaqnaga. SIMON was influenced by these recordings to compose new songs and collaborate with African and American musicians. The album "Graceland" was a commercial success and became SIMON's most successful studio album. It won the Grammy Award for "Album of the Year" in 1987 and sold over 16 million copies worldwide. 25 years ago, Paul Simon's Grammy-winning album Graceland was released and continues to influence and inspire fans and musicians worldwide, selling over 14 million copies. Graceland spawned three hit songs for Simon, including "You Can Call Me Al" with its iconic music video featuring comedian Chevy Chase. The subsequent Graceland tour lasted a full five years.
