175 years after Rimsky-Korsakov's birth, Deutsche Grammophon presents his famous "Scheherazade" on vinyl in a legendary 1967 recording by Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic: "For many, Karajan is still considered the greatest conductor of all time." (NDR) Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Symphonic Poem dates from 1888 and is one of the composer's best-known orchestral works. It is based on the story of the same name, 'From the Thousand and One Nights', in which a young woman, Scheherazade, escapes from the threat of execution by her husband, the Sultan Shahriar, by telling him exciting stories. Rimsky-Korsakov set this frame story to music in his composition. The play of motifs shows how Scheherazade invents her characters and tames the cruel Sultan. "Scheherazade" is both an exhibition piece for orchestra and a breathtaking showcase for virtuoso soloists. The masters are from original sources and have been pressed by OPTIMAL in the highest audiophile quality on 180g vinyl. The album is accompanied by the original cover design.
