Strings, bongo drums, oriental chants and sublime guitar riffs are just part of a great whole. What conceptual dramaturgy Moonspell builds and breaks down from the first oppressive second to the end is like blowing up all the power of an idea. Playful and basic at the same time, 1755 is nothing short of their magnum opus. The story takes place in the terrible year when her home in Lisbon was shattered by a massive earthquake. For the sake of decency, therefore, the entire work is written in the national language, Portuguese. And Paulo Bragança, whose trademark is a fascinating angelic voice of the native culture, makes a great guest appearance in In Tremor Dei (English: The Fear of God). 1755 is an adventure in a medieval landscape full of danger, accompanied by thrilling anthems such as the great disaster in Desastre. Fear-filled choruses stab at the wildly frenzied discordance of the guitars. Emotional, technical and simply breathtaking!
