Michael Jackson made pop history with his album Off the Wall, proving at just 20 years of age that he was a musician of exceptional quality and creative vision. With this album, he broke all then-current sales records for African-American musicians and managed to set unprecedented records for number of plays, chart placements and sales with his crossover of R&B and pop. According to Rolling Stone magazine, it was clear that Michael Jackson had invented "modern pop music as we know it" with Off the Wall. Above all, Michael Jackson has created a work that is a perfect symbiosis of entertainment and great songwriting, and which is a shining example for his black musical peers. At the time, in the late 1970s, they were still struggling for proper social recognition, and the success of Off The Wall gave them the necessary boost of confidence that has fuelled many great careers. The new special edition is released in deluxe CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray disc packaging and includes the original album version and Spike Lee's new documentary 'Michael Jackson's Journey from Motown to Off the Wall'.
