Kill 'Em All is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica , released on July 25, 1983 by independent record label Megaforce Records. The album was recorded over three weeks with producer Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The album was the band's first collaboration with Rasmussen, who produced their next five albums. Kill 'Em All is a raw and aggressive album that features a fast pace and heavy riffs. The album's musical style is rooted in the thrash metal genre pioneered by Metallica . Kill 'Em All was well received by music critics and fans alike and was the band's first album to hit the charts in the United States. In November 1990, it received a gold certificate from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling 500,000 copies in the United States. Kill 'Em All is considered one of the most influential heavy metal albums of all time. The album has been cited as a blueprint for thrash metal bands such as Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer. It is ranked 318th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
