Atlanta's Manchester Orchestra has always prided itself on a consistent approach to releasing one album after another, striving for the highest creative output each time. However, the constant pursuit of artistic greatness goes hand in hand with the goal of personal development. But what does a musician who is used to writing self-reflexively - what does he sing about - do when life is just really good? How do you write songs about being happy? The band slowly realised that for A Black Mile To The Surface they had to find a whole new path and explore new places. It was at this point that Hull and MacDowell were approached to compose the film's score. The result was the soundtrack to Swiss Army Man, which was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival with its wonderfully melancholic score that was praised by the New York Times around the world.
