Christiane Karg also has a fascinating voice and who knows what concert arias Haydn or Mozart would have written for her? At the moment she is definitely one of the most interesting German singers with international appeal. After studying in Salzburg, she began her career in Hamburg and Frankfurt. Meanwhile, her solo career has taken her to Semper Opera, Salzburg, Covent Garden and Glyndebourne, and the list of her stage partners shows the kind of venues she is now on. After the highly acclaimed Strauss Lieder, her fourth CD is again an orchestral recording. As with 'Amoretti', here the soprano relies on proven partners Arcangelo and Johnathan Cohen. After the success of her debut album Echo, this recording became her breakthrough in the CD market as well. "Scene!" is the title of the new CD, and also hints at the evolution of her voice - in the booklet she says: "After my CD of Mozart and Gluck arias, I thought it was right to take a step beyond classical music and go a little further in the theme, without wanting to become Isolde now." What fascinates her about these arias? "The huge emotions in the smallest space and the lost characters in the middle - a lostness that can turn into hatred. That's what it's all about and that's what I want to show." So: curtain call for Christiane Karg!
