The album Transformer, released in November 1972, was produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson and became Reed's commercial breakthrough. The album includes the songs "Walk on the Wild Side" and "Perfect Day". The song "Walk on the Wild Side" was controversial for its allusions to cross-dressing and drug use. The song "Perfect Day" was later recorded by a number of artists including U2 and David Bowie.
