The Dreaming is Kate's fourth studio album released in 1982. After Kate's production support on Lionheart and co-producing Never For Ever with Jon Kelly, The Dreaming was the first album Kate produced herself. The album reached number three in the UK Albums Chart and was awarded the British Phonographic Industry Silver Medal. The album was initially received with critical disfavour, but grew in reputation year on year. In 2014, critic Simon Reynolds called The Dreaming "an utterly unhinged masterpiece" and "a delirious, head-spinning experience".
