"Johnny Cash Is Coming to Town" was released in April 1987 and was Johnny Cash's first solo album on Mercury Records (after his collaborative album Class Of '55 with Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison). The album includes the tracks "Sixteen Tons", which was previously a hit for Tennessee Ernie Ford, and "The Big Light", an Elvis Costello song from his King of America album. The album reached No. 36 on the US Billboard Country chart and the only released single, "The Night Hank Williams Came to Town", reached No. 43. The LP reissue of the album features remastered soundtracks using the original Mercury master tapes for the first time. The LP reissue is pressed on 180g vinyl to ensure the highest quality and fidelity.
