Unpretentious elegance best characterises RINALDO ALESSANDRINI's style of playing. On his new recording dedicated to Bach's piano works, the harpsichordist, born in Rome in 1960, has recorded 29 short piano pieces from Bach's oeuvre of some 200 works. A large part of the pieces are taken from the two volumes of the Well-Tempered Clavier, but an arrangement of the four-movement Sonata for solo violin (BWV 1003) for solo harpsichord is also included. Rinaldo Alessandrini has grouped the works according to their tonal relationships, allowing them to appear in new contexts as in a three-part mirror. In Rinaldo Alessandrini's playing we encounter his love of detail and nuance: added to this is the fact that, thanks to decades of work with his Ensemble Concerto Italiano, he is able to imbue Bach's polyphony with unexpected new qualities.
