One of the big players in the soundtrack genre is Henry Mancini. He had his first big success with The Glenn Miller Story (1st Oscar nomination). In 1958, he collaborated with director Blake Edwards on the television series Peter Gunn. Over the next 30 years, they collaborated on 26 films. In 1958, Random House published Breakfast at Tiffany's, a novel by Truman Capote about the adventures of a young writer who meets her neighbor Holly Golightly, whose free-spirited lifestyle was exceptional for its time. When Blake Edwards decided to film the story, he commissioned Henry Mancini to compose the music. The soundtrack album, produced by Dick Pierce, was released by RCA-Victor in 1961. Not surprisingly, the album topped the US charts for 12 weeks. Audrey Hepburn wrote a letter to Mancini after seeing the film, "Your music has enriched and inspired us all immensely."
