Guns N' Roses : G N' R Lies is the debut studio album by American hard rock band Guns N' Roses , released on November 21, 1988 by Geffen Records. The album was recorded in just three weeks at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California in the spring of 1988. It is a compilation of early Guns N' Roses material , including four songs from the 1986 EP Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide and four new songs. The album title refers to the fact that most of the songs on the album are actually Lies, as the band was still finding their sound at the time. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on January 11, 1989 and has since been certified quadruple platinum. The first single from the album, "Welcome to the Jungle", was released on November 7, 1988. The song became a hit on rock radio and the music video for it was frequently played on MTV. The album's second single, "Sweet Child o' Mine", was released on August 1, 1989. The song became a huge hit and its music video was nominated for Best Music Video of the Year.
