The album contains Presley's number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from 1958 to 1977. It also includes the previously unreleased song "I'm a Roustabout". The 2014 album Number One Hits was met with mixed reviews from music critics. Some felt the album was a wasted release, while others felt it was a decent compilation. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart with sales of 107,000 copies in its first week in the United States. It was Presley's first album to debut in the top five since Elvis made the top ten in 1973. As of January 2019, the 2014 album Number One Hits has sold 431,000 copies in the United States.
