Time is the eighth studio album by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), released in 1981. The album was produced by Jeff Lynne, who also wrote and sang all the songs. It was ELO's first album since 1977's Out of the Blue and the first since the band's 1979 breakup. The album reached number 3 on the UK album chart and number 10 on the US Billboard 200. It was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry and the Recording Industry Association of America. The lead single from the album, "Hold on Tight", reached No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 81 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The second single, "Twilight", charted at number 47 on the UK Singles Chart. The album Time was generally well received by music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic called it a "triumphant return" and praised Lynne's songwriting and production. Time is often regarded as ELO's comeback album and has been cited as an influence by several contemporary artists.
